Susume! Hakubishin

From the up-and-coming author of Hana Yondan to Issho comes a story depicting the struggles of a manga artist before and after World War II. 1933, the year Japan withdrew from the League of Nations and the Nazis seized power in Germany. Shin Hakubi, an unsuccessful manga artist, takes the biggest gamble of his life. His ambition to create a huge hit with a manga called Buchineko Yondou Suhei (Spotted Cat Fourth Class Seaman), a parody of Norakuro Joushouhei (Private Norakuro), matches the times when the sense of impending war was growing stronger, and leads Shin Hakubi to a position no one could have imagined...
