Short version
Last updated: April 20, 2026.
If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Manatan services. If you use Manatan on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms for that organization.
This page is designed to be protective, but terms are not a force field. Have a qualified lawyer review it before relying on it for a production business, especially if you add arbitration, class-action waivers, or region-specific consumer terms.
Acceptance and changes
By creating an account, connecting a third-party service, buying a membership, downloading Manatan, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy.
We may update these terms when Manatan changes, when legal requirements change, or when new account, billing, tracker, or sync features are added. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice. Continuing to use Manatan after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
Accounts and security
- You are responsible for keeping your account, devices, passwords, passkeys, and sessions secure.
- You must provide accurate account and billing information when it is required.
- You may not sell, rent, transfer, or share your Manatan account or member perks unless we explicitly allow it.
- You are responsible for activity that happens through your account unless the activity was caused by Manatan's own security failure.
- You must notify us if you believe your account or connected service tokens have been compromised.
We may require email verification, rate-limit requests, revoke sessions, suspend accounts, or require additional checks when needed to protect users or the service.
Subscriptions and billing
Paid memberships are optional. The checkout page or payment provider will show the plan, provider, billing interval, price, currency, and any taxes or provider fees before you pay.
- Monthly memberships renew until cancelled unless the checkout flow says otherwise.
- You can cancel through the payment provider or any account/billing controls that Manatan provides.
- Cancellation stops future renewals. It does not automatically refund past charges unless required by law or stated at checkout.
- Perks may continue until the end of the paid billing period, unless a provider reverses, disputes, refunds, or fails the payment.
- We may change prices or plan features prospectively with reasonable notice where required.
- Taxes, currency conversion, card fees, and provider fees may be handled by Stripe, Ko-fi, or another payment provider.
If a webhook or billing provider is delayed, member status may take time to update. We may apply or remove manual adjustments to correct billing errors, fraud, chargebacks, legacy-supporter matches, or support cases.
Third-party services
Manatan can connect to services such as Google, Discord, AniList, MyAnimeList, Kitsu, Shikimori, Bangumi, MangaUpdates, Simkl, Stripe, Ko-fi, and content or metadata providers. Those services are not controlled by Manatan.
- You are responsible for following each third-party service's terms, API rules, and rate limits.
- Third-party services may change, break, suspend access, revoke tokens, block requests, or return incorrect data.
- Manatan is not responsible for third-party downtime, policy changes, account bans, data loss, charges, or content availability.
- Connecting a service authorizes Manatan to use the access needed to provide the selected integration.
You can disconnect integrations from Manatan where controls are available, and you can usually revoke access directly from the third-party provider as well.
Your content, backups, and learning data
You keep ownership of your lawful content, backup files, settings, and learning data. You give Manatan the limited permission needed to host, process, transmit, sync, display, and secure that data for the features you use.
- You are responsible for having rights to the media, subtitles, dictionaries, backups, or other files you use with Manatan.
- You are responsible for keeping independent backups of important data.
- Google Drive sync is designed so backup payloads move directly between your app and Google Drive, but you still control your Drive account and files.
- Manatan may remove content or disable access if it appears unlawful, abusive, infringing, harmful, or likely to create liability.
Acceptable use
You may not use Manatan to:
- Break the law, violate intellectual property rights, or invade someone else's privacy.
- Upload, distribute, or facilitate malware, phishing, spam, credential theft, or abusive automation.
- Probe, scan, attack, overload, reverse engineer, bypass, or interfere with Manatan infrastructure or security controls.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-export data in a way that harms Manatan or third-party services.
- Share, resell, or abuse premium features, tokens, sessions, or private APIs.
- Impersonate someone, misrepresent affiliation, or create accounts to evade bans or limits.
- Use Manatan in a way that could get Manatan, its users, or connected services blocked or harmed.
Software and licenses
Manatan app code may be distributed under open-source or source-available licenses. Those licenses govern the code they cover. These terms govern Manatan hosted services, accounts, billing, sync helpers, memberships, and website access.
Unless a license says otherwise, you may not copy Manatan branding, hosted service code, private APIs, or member-only assets to mislead users or operate a confusingly similar service.
Availability, changes, and beta features
Manatan may change, add, remove, pause, or discontinue features at any time. Some features are experimental, beta, member-preview, or dependent on third parties. New features may be available to members before wide release, but bug fixes are not intentionally delayed for non-members.
We try to keep the service reliable, but we do not promise that Manatan will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every attack, or compatible with every device, source, tracker, app version, or operating system forever.
Warranty disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Manatan is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. This includes implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and reliability.
Manatan is a learning and productivity tool. It does not guarantee learning outcomes, tracker accuracy, source availability, subtitle accuracy, OCR accuracy, AI output quality, uninterrupted sync, or preservation of every setting or backup.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Manatan and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill, business interruption, device problems, third-party account actions, or substitute services, even if we were told such damages were possible.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Manatan's total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of: the amount you paid Manatan for the service in the three months before the claim, or 50 USD. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limits, so some of these limits may not apply to you.
Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Manatan and its operators from claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses arising from your use of Manatan, your content, your connected accounts, your violation of these terms, your violation of law, or your violation of another person's rights.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using Manatan at any time. You may request account deletion through available account controls or by contacting us. Account deletion may use a waiting period to prevent accidental or malicious deletion.
We may suspend or terminate access, revoke sessions, remove integrations, or disable member perks if we believe you violated these terms, created risk for Manatan or others, failed to pay, abused a provider, triggered fraud or chargeback concerns, or if we are required to do so by law or a third-party provider.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protection laws require a different result. Courts located in Alberta, Canada will have non-exclusive jurisdiction for disputes related to these terms or the service.
