In the Holy Circle, all angels must identify as female. Their Holy Mother, Lady Lifeblood, has given them all the gift of life in her visage, allowing them the privilege to serve Her as Her faithful daughters. Washiel, however, one of the Circle's nurse angels, has always known himself to be male; and, he's never been able to keep this fact to himself.
