The Neptunian Gaussian Auctions is a free multiplayer browser game in which players bid on one absurd item each day. Every lot is presented in the style of a high-end auction catalog, with photorealistic photography and deadpan listing copy for improbable artifacts of supposedly Neptunian origin. Instead of winning by bidding highest, players score by how close their bid lands to the median of all bids placed on that day's lot. Each auction is a game of predicting the crowd's collective judgment rather than the item's actual worth.
