Shin Taketori Monogatari

Everyone knows The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. But somewhere in the retelling, it was twisted — this was once a record of something that really happened. On the far side of the moon, a woman lay sleeping. She wakes without words, her memory broken. The player traces what she lost, one fragment at a time, restoring pieces of a memory that gradually reveal the true story hidden beneath the folktale everyone thought they knew. Choices made along the way shape which of several different endings the story reaches. The game is presented entirely in pixel art, with music and sound effects carrying much of its quiet, sound-novel-style storytelling.
